This event focuses on learning and communication of systems thinking for practitioners, decision-makers and executives, and the essay in the booklet 'Opening the box’, created by SCiO. The team worked on an initiative to explore how we communicate systems thinking, its benefits and impact, so the session explores the message behind their essay.

'Opening the box' invites you to delve into the realms of systems thinking, by exploring four layers of ‘systems’: parts and wholes, nascent development, coherence, and metamorphosis. This is for those who may not believe that they use systems thinking, but already consider relationships and connections in situations, those who wish to learn who are seeking a place to start, or those already practicing systems thinking looking for a different ‘take’ on the discipline.

Drawing from 35 years of experience, Anderson emphasises the importance of collaborative leadership, embracing variability, and viewing quality as an enabler rather than a policing function. Vanessa Walsh, Head of Sustainability for Jacobs, speaks about the Jacobs PlanBeyond strategy. The strategy aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and shows how sustainability is personal to everyone, in everything they do. Sustainability isn’t 100 people doing it perfectly, it’s millions doing it imperfectly but improving.

If you have worked in quality you'll likely be familiar with delivering bad, or at least unpopular, news. These conversations go with the territory. Paul Simpson, Director at S2a2s, uses public domain examples from the recent past as well as examples from personal experience to look at how we can deliver bad news in a better way.
