The History of Audit – Multi-Cultural Patterns and Trends

Session outline:

"Those who cannot remember the past," said George Santayana, "are condemned to repeat it.” What can we learn from history to avoid repetition and draw from new sources of inspiration? History isn’t just a series of dates, numbers, or isolated events – it’s a story of people, decisions, and the intricate web of causes and consequences that shape our world. Yet too often, history is taught as a rigid timeline rather than the living, breathing narrative it truly is. This technical series seeks to change that.

In this webinar, the Audit Network encourages you to take a step back, not to memorise facts, but to explore the deeper questions: How did audit practices evolve? Why did certain systems emerge? What cultural, economic, or philosophical shifts shaped the way we verify truth, value, and trust?

Like the saying “The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones”, your voice, your curiosity, and your perspective, no matter how small it may seem, can help build a more global, inclusive, and human-centric understanding of the History of Audit.

This isn’t just another lecture series. It’s a conversation. A journey. And a chance to reimagine the past not as a set of constraints, but as a source of insight for the future.
