Quality Challenges in Construction

Session outline:

Quality in construction is a persistent industry challenge – driven by complexity, fragmentation, and high levels of risk. With clients, designers, contractors, and suppliers all contributing to project delivery, differing priorities and communication gaps can quickly lead to inconsistent standards and quality outcomes. Under pressure to meet tight budgets and timelines, teams may take shortcuts that increase the likelihood of defects, rework, and costly delays.

In this webinar, Derek Geyer CQP MCQI explores why achieving consistent quality remains so difficult and what can be done to improve outcomes. From variable site conditions and workmanship to labour shortages, training gaps, and late design changes, he unpacks the real-world factors that undermine quality on construction projects. The session also challenges the perception of quality management as a compliance exercise, instead highlighting how stronger collaboration, better planning, and proactive supervision can embed quality across the entire project lifecycle – rather than relying on inspections at the end.
