Managing Digital Data Quality and Architecture

Digital transformation is improving how organisations capture, structure and connect data across systems such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), manufacturing execution system (MES) and internet of things (IoT) networks. These connected environments enhance traceability, integrity and real-time decision-making, enabling quality teams to work with greater confidence and clarity across the value chain.

The CQI’s Managing Digital Data Quality and Architecture e-learning course explores how data flows across systems and mitigates risk, and how strong data practices support reliable, accessible and trustworthy information in a connected organisation. It’s designed for quality professionals, managers, executives and anyone seeking knowledge of digital data architecture, integration, governance and data quality in modern Quality 4.0 ecosystems.

During this 90-minute course, hands-on activities, relatable examples and quizzes will help you to discover the practical applications of strong digital data quality and how they can benefit you in your role. You’ll receive a CPD certificate on completion.

  • Explain how digital data flows across enterprise quality systems such as ERP, MES, QMS, CRM, and IoT platforms, and how these interconnections support traceability and continuous improvement.
  • Apply data architecture principles to recognise different data sources, formats, and integration touchpoints, ensuring reliable data movement and integrity across connected systems.
  • Distinguish real-time versus batch data transfer methods, and evaluate the roles of APIs, middleware, and data standardisation to overcome integration challenges and safeguard cybersecurity risks.
  • Implement traceability and version control practices to maintain comprehensive audit trails, track data lineage, and support root cause analysis and compliance audits in digital quality environments.
  • Balance data accessibility with governance controls to enable timely, secure, and role-appropriate data availability that supports confident decision-making while protecting sensitive information.
  • Define and monitor key data quality metrics and feedback loops that enhance data accuracy, timeliness, and consistency, driving proactive quality management and strategic improvements.
